Group Account Directors oversee a portfolio of business and are responsible for the growth, management, strategic direction and leadership of account activity, clients, and team members within this book of work. The Group Account Director effectively leverages experience, knowledge, and skills to drive innovative thinking and set challenging team goals and objectives by balancing client, company, and team needs. Stewards and mentors the full team, ensuring strong team unity and ways of working, optimizing talent utilization and growth among all team members.

Job Responsibilities:

Overall growth and development of group assigned accounts
Oversees development and implementation of group assigned organic growth plans
Encourage and demonstrates unity behind the team and agency decision-making
Establish annual billing and revenue goals for each client, tracking progress on a quarterly basis
Supports the development and accuracy of agency case studies articulating the business impact of our work
Responsible for maximizing customer satisfaction and engagement with the agency’s products and services
Remain in touch with the agency’s “day-to-day” business on behalf of clients – knowledgeable and conversant in their key issues, competitive situation, industry trends and the projects assigned the agency as well as other communication partners
Demonstrate confidence, authority and level-headed decision-making as the agency’s leadership voice on assigned accounts
Effectively assign, delegate and monitor the work of the agency staff assigned the accounts specified above as well as other accounts/projects as assigned
Leads positive, spirited debate of ideas and points-of-view in order to push “your team” and the agency at large to deliver a continuously improving product, both counsel and work
Communicate effectively and proactively with VP Accounts and departments heads regarding performance issues and opportunities for improvement
Encourage, and demonstrate, unity behind team and agency decision-making
Use the benefit of separation from the “day-to-day” to make certain staffers continue to articulate, and adhere to, agreed upon client strategies and directives
Make decisions that reflect “layers” of thought – enthusiasm, insight, caution, discretion – and a prudent balance of client and agency goals
Supports group account team in resolving issues while complying with service-level agreements. Monitors open customer concerns and step in directly, or elevates to VP Accounts, when they reach critical levels. In addition, these directors regularly inform the VP Accounts and relevant department heads about major product or service problems.
Develop and holds performance evaluations, offers coaching and mentoring, and collaborate with VP Accounts to develop and finalize career pathing and training/professional development for group account team. This includes assuring the account team is trained in and follows the agency’s SOPs, and quality standards.
Monitors client and project billing practices, forecasting/projections and trends
Assures the recommendations of all departments/SMEs are considered in the development of all marketing plans
Leading strategic development of new business pitches from RFP response to closing accounts including collaborating with President and VP Accounts in MSA and contract negotiations.


10+ years of work experience
8 years account/agency-related experience
Experience with strategic marketing planning, traditional and digital campaign tactics, media services and research/consumer insights.
Strong presentation, verbal and written skills as well as proven ability to develop well-positioned and thoughtful documents and presentations.
Bonus: Experience with Jira, Workamajig, Smartsheet or similar project management tools
