DIGITAL CONTENT STRATEGIST: The University of Rochester is looking for an experienced content strategist and writer to join a growing digital and web strategy team.

The content strategist will join a team of dynamic digital professionals in University Communications to execute distinctive work that raises awareness and enhances reputation. We are looking for a creative profession to develop and execute content user-focused strategies for websites, newsletters, social media channels, and other digital communications platforms. This position will require expertise and experience in strategic messaging, user research, content audits, taxonomies, web/marketing copywriting, SEO/SEM, accessibility, user experience, style guides, brand standards, and analytics.

Conducting content audits of existing websites and applying results to refresh content according to business goals, user needs, project schedule, and scope.

Working with clients and subject matter experts to develop content strategies, rationale documents, marketing plans, messaging pillars, audience personas, information architectures, taxonomies, and SEO/SEM plans.

Developing and collaborating to implement long-term content strategy and web governance plans using a RACI matrix.

Writing and editing copy to communicate the University’s brand story in a way that is strategic, distinctive, and compelling in a wide range of digital mediums using varying formats, including storytelling, lists, data/infographics, visualizations, and multimedia presentations.

Guiding and collaborating with clients and stakeholders to identify key performance indicators (KPls), business goals, and target audiences. Conducting user testing, focus groups, and online research to inform content strategy for new and existing websites, newsletters, and other digital mediums.

Measuring results and refining strategies based on KPls, data/analytics, benchmarking, and user testing. Applying research and results to inform future projects and enhance approaches.

Creating and maintaining style guides, standards, audience personas, guidelines, and training materials to reflect strategic goals, benchmarking, user research, web standards, and digital trends.

Developing and leading training and education to promote awareness and adherence to brand standards, style guides, web governance guidelines, and best practices for digital communications.

B.A. in communications, digital marketing, or related field and 3+ years of experience in content strategy and digital copywriting for websites, newsletters, and social media.

Deep understanding of taxonomies, information architectures, SEO, usability, accessibility, and web standards

Extreme attention to detail and a passion for copywriting and editing

Experience collaborating with clients and subject matter experts to deliver compelling, accurate, user-focused, and on-brand digital content

Experience working in cross-functional teams and taking direction from senior team members; familiarity with Agile project management approaches preferred.

Solid understanding of digital ecosystems and brand communications for complex organizations

Highly proficient writing and speaking in English with strong presentation skills, demonstrating an ability to clearly articulate ideas and present work both internally and to clients

Interest in design trends, digital formats, creative technology, and digital marketing

Compelling portfolio of distinctive work that spans brand communications and storytelling across a range of digital mediums
